BEHIND THE ARTWORK
Rosie Emerson presents three brand new editions featuring queens from the silver screen Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn and Nina Mae McKinney: “This whole collection has been great fun to print as no single print has been the same, it’s been a new reveal every time.”
‘Audrey’ features the ubiquitous face of Audrey Hepburn, actress, humanitarian and style icon. After clearing out her grandmother’s studio (Keyna Emerson 1922-2021) Rosie has worked with what she found, her half-finished backgrounds, as well as creating her own inspired by her style.
Using her music sheets, letters, sketches, notes, and piles of collage source material, she explains: “I have had fun with these, playing like a magpie with mine and hers sense of colour, composition, and material. I’ve tried to be brave, they are smaller than I usually work and this has been liberating. I’ve used new materials, paint but also inks and spray paint, and combining the collage with screenprint has been a new direction for me too.”
